Hello,
What does "power by X" really mean? And why is "power" or "powered"?
Thank you,

Well, it should be "powered by X," and I'm trying to recall when I've ever heard "power by X." Do you have a quotation?
Oh, what it means: X provides the power / fuel / impetus / force behind whatever is "powered by X." _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |

I'm thinking about an advertisement of something. Maybe something on the internet. They advertise a product and says "power(ed) by X". I just don't really understand what it means. Does it mean X supports the product? Or maybe they use X to advertise about the product? Or maybe X gives financial support to the product?

Yes, probably means financial support or assistance provided by X. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |

If it's some sort of machine or computer hardware, it could mean "operates using X device," like "The Apple G5, powered by Intel Processors"--it's slightly inaccurate, since the processors don't supply any real electricity or power. |

| For example Built by Ford - power by Porsche, would mean that it was a Ford car with a Porsche engine. |

What's "powered" here? |

I think it is "powered," both grammatically and in the commercial. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |

Yes, it should be powered to be grammatical English.
However, in advertising, grammar is the least of their worries. |
