Dear Teachers,
1. A: Sunnyville Museum, how can I help you?
B: What are your hours?
- Why dont we say what are the visiting hours??
2. Were open from 9.00 to 7.00
- We open from 9.00 to 7.00
- Which sentence is more natural?
3. Whats the homework assignment for tomorrow?
- homework assignment here means homework duty / homework task, right?
Thanks a lot to Teachers,

1. It is common to say, "What are your hours?" or "When are you open?" when calling a museum or other public place. You could say, "What are your visiting hours?", and no one would laugh at you. After all, the sign at the museum is sure to say, "Visiting hours Monday through . . . ."
2. Usually you'll hear, "We are open from 9 to 7." You might hear, "We open at 9 a.m. and close at 7 p.m."
3. The homework assignment is the task set by the teacher to be completed at home and brought back to class. You wouldn't say "homework duty," even though that is a correct description of what you have, a duty to complete the homework. You can also just call it the assignment or the homework.
"Hey, John, what's the homework / assignment / homework assignment for history?" "Read pages 200-220 and answer the questions on page 221." "Thanks." _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
