That's cool!
How do you pronounce "Pho" (like the noodle soup).
My mom and I love to eat it, but we don't know how to say it
Is it "Foe" or "Fuh"? |

When I was in Sydney a few years ago,I met two vietnamese who were a boy and a girl, the boy had studied English for at least three years in Australia, but his English proficiency was very low especially his pronunciation ,he liked martial art, another girl was interested in politics ,she wanted to go back to vietnam and become politician somedays.I haven't contacted with them for a few years.so I 'd like to ask you something about vietnam.
First ,why did the girl want to become politician in Vietnam?I know that Vietnam is a communist country in which their politicians are not elected by their people, how could she become politician easily? What way must she take to enter the politics circle in Vietnam?
Second, how well does vietnamese economy develope today?are there still many state-run businesses in Vietnam?are there many private section busniesses in Vietnam?
Third ,do many Vietnamese believe communism?Do they want to become democratic and free country?
Are all media in Vietnam controlled by Vietnamese government?
I would very appreciate you if you answer these questions. |

I don't know much about Vietnam but what is written in the history books. And by what I've read, all I can say is that I really admire the braveness of her people throughout history. _________________ Stormy Weather. |

Ask the Vietnamese people do in the restauant where you eat " Pho" how to pronouce . I think my language is a little bit for forgeiners to pronounce because of accents ( accute accent, circumflex accent, grave accent....) _________________ I'm smart, that's why i'm single...haha(^_^) |

Hi ltp-008,
The girl wanted to become the politician i think that's her purpose or dream, that doesnt mean she will be a politician in the future, she maybe interested in politic. Like me i really want to become a diplomat....You made a mistake, in my coutry we have to elected. Of course to become a politician is so difficult, it's depend on her qualification.
Our country is developing now because goverment open the door with the world, coorperating with others countries, goverment give reasonable policy, acttracting forgein investment and encouraging domestic investment....beside my country have stable politic, no war. By joining WTO is open new history for Vietnam.
There are still many state-run businesses in and there are many private section businesses in my country too. Acttualy there are some state run businesses work less effect but we are changing by being privatized...
We are now living in free coutry, we are Vietnamese and we love Vietnam, i'm proud of because i'm Vietnamese.
All media is controlled by Vietnamese goverment.
If you have a chance, welcome you to Vietname _________________ I'm smart, that's why i'm single...haha(^_^) |

Thanks garfield_jesse,Vietnam had suffered three major wars during next half of 20th century, one was a war between America and communist north Vietnam, second war was between Cambodia and Vietnam, third war was agaisnt china. Is these right?
Vietnam now is not war against any country,so it is fortunate for Vietnamese to enjoy lives.
But I heard that ordinary Vietnamese don't have the rights to electe their country's leaders and local leaders, could you please explain how the elections are held?
The boy whom I knew in Sydney didn't want to return to Vietnam,he somewhat didn't like Vietnam. |

My country had suffered wars with China, French, Combodia, America. Vietnam now is still developing country, reality we are still poor country but that's only the beginning, in the South of Vietnam, there are many people went to Ammerica. Almost Vietnamese people live in abroad always wanna to contributed country. Actually there have some misinterpret with the ones that didnt get exact imformation about Vietnam. Someone wanna to go aboard to live (for example: Ammerica), maybe their relatives lived in there since the war between Vietnam and Ammerica had stoped or someone wanna their life better about economic in a rich country, wanna get new chance...Beside i dont deny that someone when they went to aboard they didnt wanna come back or there has someone lost a lot of money just wanna get a chance to go to Ammerica.
I'm Vietnamese and i am a human being, if i had condition to live in high living stardards, good job i would live in there, but wherever i live i still Vietnamese people. And i love Vietnam. How about you?
About the election, all Vietnamese people have a right to elect when we 18 years old, there are many classes: first we will choose some worthy candidates for local area (ward or commune), they will elect candidates for district...similarly for province, city....candidates are elected to the national assembly from province or city (members of the national assembly), members of the nation assembly will represent for people elect governme. _________________ I'm smart, that's why i'm single...haha(^_^) |

So Vietnam is still a developing country in the world, but she has gotten a lot of progress in recent years,Vietnam has been gradually reforming its economy system from a command economy into free-market economy.I wish your country gook luck!
I know a Vietnamese lady in Canada, she works in an university as dustwoman, she came as refugee to Canada more than ten years ago,Canada government gave her a free course to learn English, she is very kindness and industrious, although she has daytime job,she works on the weekend for another job,she has a happy family.
I can understand your love of your homeland,it is not easy to defend Vietnam and maintain Vietnam a sovereign state after suffering so many wars whith world super powers such as US and China.
About election,I can draw conclusion that most ordinary people in Vietnam don't have chance or rights to directly elect their country's leaders and local leaders, but they have right to electe their district deputies.
I also wish all the best to you, friend. |

We're all prone to spelling mistakes, but ltp, you really should change one of yours: "I wish your country GOOK luck! (I did laugh though.)
I think that the Vietnamese will develop their country, probably taking some inspiration from China. I've only met a few Vietnamese, but they have all been wonderful people. |

You would get close if you replaced the "h" with an "f" on the front of "huh?". The question mark is inside the quotes because you need a low rising tone, as if the word is a question in English, for it to be correct. _________________ Daniel

I laughed too. But it was a good natured laugh - we all do make spelling mistakes.

I agree with your opinion. Vietnam is already developing very quickly, especially the manufacturing sector of the economy. They don't have the sheer volume of human assets though to be a competitive worry to China. Vietnam will probably develop a strong low technology manufacturing based economy. China is working hard to encourage investment of high technology manufacturing - and doing a pretty good job. _________________ Daniel
