What is the correct way of using ellipsis? There should be spaces betweens the dots? How many dots should we use? Are there any differences between American and British English regarding its usage? _________________ Stormy Weather. |

I usually put spaces between the periods . . . like that, because it looks better than no spaces...like that. On a typewriter -- if anyone here can remember those old fashioned things -- you didn't need spaces, because every character took up the same amount of space, and three periods in a rwo took up enough space to look good. As for usage, there are different 'style guides' which lay out consistent rules for these things, but it's up to the individual which they follow or if they even follow one at all. My advice is to take a look at the wikipedia page and decide if you prefer any of the styles they mention:
