When you have a chip on your shoulder, you are just waiting for someone to say or do something so you can tangle (fight) with them. Once upon a time, a boy might put a little chip of wood on his shoulder and dare anyone to knock it off. If anyone did, he would fight with that boy.
A frontier is the edge of civilization or the border between one country and the next. The frontier / frontiers of science are therefore the leading edges, the very latest in science. Anyone pushing back the frontiers of science is going forth ahead of everyone else. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
