In the below, which is correct and why?

1)A chartered dealer is a person licensed or trained to sell and service a particular product.
2)An authorized dealer is a person licensed or trained to sell and service a particular product.

An authorized dealer is a business or individual that is given permission to sell a product by the manufacturer. What it really means is that the dealer is given 'official' status, so you know that they are connected to the manufacturer and perhaps have to maintain certain standards. The term's often used when talking about car dealerships. Authorized dealers are often where you take products to be repaired or serviced.

I've never heard of a chartered dealer - a 'charter member' is a person or group which was involved in setting up an organisation (if you started a business with some other people you would be a charter member), so you could have a chartered dealership owned by a charter member I guess... but I'd definitely go with number 2 as the answer to you question.

Short answer: I've heard of an authorized dealer, I've never heard of a chartered dealership
