"I'll take (an) an-hour-long class of English every weekday for/through a year."

Is "an" necessary here?
And can "through" be used instead of "for"?

Thank you in advance!

An is correct because the h in hour is silent
I would always say, for a year .

Thanks a lot for your reply, asterix-san!

Would you please tell me whether or not you put "an" before "an-hour-long class"?

You do put the "an" but you don't put the hyphen:

An hour-long class.

Thank you so much for your comment, CP-san!

Do you mean "I'll take an hour-long class of English every weekday for a year." is correct?

"I'll take an an-hour-long class of English every weekday for a year." is strange?

Junkomama

I think it is fine to say, "I'll take an hour-long class of English every weekday for a year." I'd probably just change "class of English" to "English class" if I spoke or wrote that sentence.

You can't say "an an-hour-long class." "An" is the indefinite article in the singular number used just before a noun / adjective / adverb that begins with a vowel or a silent "h."

"Hour-long class" is a class that lasts an hour.

"An hour-long class" is how you say it, with just one "an" needed.

Similarly, you would say "a week-long seminar" or "a year-long course," not "an a-week-long seminar" or "an a-year-long course."
