It's 1) because you're asking about the person's skiing ability, and 'how good' is used when you're asking someone to rate something. With 2) you're already assuming the person is good at skiing, and you're asking for an explanation of this ('how did you learn to ski so well?'); it could also be a way of asking which specific areas of skiing the person is skilled in, such as cornering or landing jumps ('in what ways are you good at skiing?'). |
