Punishment should be fit the crime.
Punishment should be fit crime.
He was selected for the male role on the new movie.
Are they correct? Do you need the article before crime?
Thank you |

"Punishment should be fit the crime" and "Punishment should be fit crime" should be "The punishment should fit the crime."
"He was selected for the male role on the new movie" should be "He was selected / chosen for the male lead in the new movie." _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |

You can also have 'the punishment should befit the crime' if that's the word you meant to use, not 'be fit'. The definite articles are usually used because you're saying that for a particular crime ('the crime'), the punishment meted out for that crime should be appropriate for it. |
