I come across the phase of "Not that there is anything wrong with that" a lot, but don't quite understand it...need your help here...that'll be especially great if you could explain it in a context. thanks a billion! |

The person who is afraid of saying something politically incorrect, and worried that someone will think that he or she has some sort of bias or prejudice, will sometimes put that phrase into his or her conversation to convey this message: "Understand that I am open-minded and not biased, so when I say that, I am not saying that it is bad or wrong in any way."
Example:
"My co-worker is gay -- not that there's anything wrong with that! -- and he thinks this necktie is too loud for work."
An episode on the old "Seinfeld" show featured "not that there'e anything wrong with that" to very funny effect. Is that where you heard it repeated many times? _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
