" Martin James, a professional treasure hunter points out that not all of his discoveries are as dramatic as that, and treausre hunting is much less romantic than it sounds."
In this sentence, I think that Martin also points out that " treasure hunting is..." In this case, " as that, and that treasure hunting..." seems to be right. I've learned that "the second that" like in this sentence can't be omitted.
What's your opinion? |

Suppose you re-wrote it as:
"Martin James, a professional treasure hunter, points out that (1) not all of his discoveries are as dramatic as that, and (2) treasure hunting is much less romantic than it sounds."
(Spelling corrected; comma added after hunter.)
Then the second "that" is not needed. But if you wanted a second "that" and also used the numbers, it would have to be:
"Martin James, a professional treasure hunter, points out (1) that not all of his discoveries are as dramatic as that, and (2) that treasure hunting is much less romantic than it sounds." _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
