Hi,

Nice to find my way back the forum. Cool

I was watching the movie City Hall. A boy was dead. The mayor made a speech to the press...He said.....the body is dropped.

I think that this is just a vivid expression of death, no more.

Am I right?

Usually, when somebody talks about dropping a body, they are talking about where the body was left. For example: "The body was dropped in the alley" means "the body was left in the alley."

Thank you very much.

The mayor had been talking about the city, the whole city, where the body was dropped. He didnt say "where", but he must mean it I suppose.

Thank again.

I haven`t seen the movie so I can`t confirm that your interpretation is correct, but it seems reasonable. My previous example is probably the most common usage for "drop a body" so I trust that you should be able to infer meaning where usage differs. Maybe someone who knows the movie can weigh-in and answer definatively.

It could also mean that the body has been placed into a grave; that is, it's an old matter, it's already done, there's no need to talk about it any more.
