Dear Teachers,
1. A: What's up man?
B: Not much. I ws wondering if I could ask you for a favor.
- "What's up" in this situation doesn't mean "Hi" or "Hello", right? I think here it means "How are things with you?", right?
2. A: Hey Mary! I was wondering If you could do me a favor.
B: Hmm, maybe. Try me!
- "try me" here means "just tell me what it is, and then let me see if I can help you or not", right?
Thanks a million to Teachers,

1. It can just mean 'hi', it can mean 'how are things with you?', it can mean 'what's wrong?', or it can mean 'what's going on?' - which is probably the case here since the other person replied 'not much' (there's not much happening).
2. Yeah, if you try something then you make an attempt/use it/do it etc. to see what happens. She's basically saying 'try (asking) me, depending on what the favor is I might or might not do it'. |
