Please tell me what's wrong with the underlined portion:
Q1: The famous Indian actor stated in an interview that he believed and lived by the principle of ahimasa, the Hindu practive of doing no harm to any living thing.
Q2: There will always be a shortage of qualified teachers as long as salaries for teachers remain substantially lower than industry. |

Q1: It means that the actor believed the principle and lived his life according to the principle. I think it would be better if written as "that he believed in and lived by the principle of ahimasa. . . ."
Q2: It means significantly below or far less than salaries in industry. Until teachers can make as much money inside the classroom as outside, it will be hard to find enough of them to do the job. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
