I read a article about Oman,It said that Oman is a monarchy ,there are about three millions of population,Oman has good medicare system in which everyone gets free medicare,Oman also has good education system in which their people get free education.
Oman government bans any activity of political party ,they don't allow their people to set up any political party.
Oman has diplomatic relation with Israel,Oman has set up trade mission in Israel.
About 80 percent of exports are oil,Oman has a good relation with US ,Japan and so forth.
About 40 percent of domestic products are agriculture products such as sheep, cow and so on.
People in Oman speak both Arabic and English.
Are these statement about Oman correct? If not ,please correct them. |

I was told a funny thing about a female worker from Petrobras who is working at Oman (the woman is friend of a friend of mine).
It seems that, in Oman, women must cover themselves; they don't have to wear burkas, but they can't show their faces or arms, for example.
But according to this Petrobras female worker, when the Oman women go to a shopping mall, once they get into the female's toilet, they uncover themselves; and, under the veils, they are always wearing a lot of make up and jewelry. They're very beautiful and vain*, it seems.
It's funny, for since they can't show themselves to other men than their husbands, why do they care for looking beautiful under the veils? The only explanation would be the desire of showing themselves to other women, like they were saying: "You see, I am much more beautiful than you; and my husband is much more rich, since he can buy me all this beautiful jewelry".
Is it true? Cause if it is, I will get to the conclusion that women are the same everywhere in the world . . . (shame on our gender!).
(I don't know if the word "vain" is conveying the idea I'd like to; I don't mean they're idle; what I want to say is that they show a lot of concern about the way they look, but the idea is not negative). _________________ Stormy Weather. |

vain
4 : having or showing undue or excessive pride in one's appearance or achievements : CONCEITED
It seems like you are using it right. |

No. . . that was not the idea I was trying to convey at all. . . in Brazil this word (vaidoso/vaidosa) has a very positive meaning. It means you are concerned about the way you look, but in a healthy and balanced way; it's a question of self-steem.
But may be it's a cultural question. When a Brazilian woman is in trouble and feeling down, the first thing people tell her to do is to look at her reflection in the looking-glass, wear some lipstick and tell herself she's beautiful. . . . _________________ Stormy Weather. |

Why does that make me think of the words of Stuart Smalley. |
