Hello. Iam an English teacher in Japan.
Could anyone tell me which is correct?
He had stayed in America for five years in his thirties.
He stayed in America for five years in his thirties.
I would appreciate it if someone answer this question.

Use the past simple tense "stayed" if you're talking about a past action.
Use the past perfect tense "had stayed" if you're talking about a past action that was completed before another past action.
