Hi teachers,
Do native speakers of English use "eat food"?
For example, would you say "I'm very hungry; I'd like to eat food, or eat any food, or eat anything"?
Thank you |

I suppose we might use "eat food" at times, but generally we are very lazy and only use the bare minimum number of words needed to communicate so just "eat" is more common.

I agree with Damon. There's no need to say food when you're talking about eating.
Sometimes we say "eat [some type of] food," as in, "You want to eat some Italian food? There's a new restaurant that I want to try." Even then, we'll usually shorten it to, "Let's go eat Italian."
Or, "She's always eating fast food. She needs to eat more vegetables." _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
