Hello,

What does the sentence uttered by B mean?

A: What happened?
B: He got called for charging.

That's the whole dialogue as it appears in an exercise book. All I know is that it's about sports. My guess is that the player attacked another player and he was punished in some way for that attack. Am I any close?

Thank you,

Nawee

Sounds like basketball. When the player with the ball purposely runs into a defender, that is charging, an offensive foul.

To be called for charging is to be detected by the referee, who blows his whistle (calling the infraction) to stop play and assess the penalty -- free throws by the person charged, I believe.

So, yes, you are right.
