"The living wage is like the minimum wage on steroids. It just tries to up the minimum wage by some other random number. Nobody I've seen yet has set a specific formula. They are just grabbing numbers out of the air that make them feel good."
What does "minimum wage on steroids" mean? Thanks. |

Hi,
Minimum wage is the lowest possible wage set by the government of a country or region.
Steroids are performance enhancing drugs often (so I am told) used by amateur and professional athletes to make them stronger and faster. When someone used "on steroids" as slang they are saying that whatever is "on steroids" is stronger than normal.
The passage that you are quoting "living wage is like minimum wage on steroids" is saying that living wage is higher (stronger) than minimum wage.
