Hello,
I'm a bit confused with these two words. To me, a dissertation is shorter than a thesis. When you study for an MA in the UK, write a dissertation. And you have to write a thesis if you study for a doctorate degree. I have been told that it's the other way round in the US. Is that the case?
Thank you,
Nawee |

Hi Nawee,
I am from North America and to me, just as you predict, a dissertation is for a Doctorate whereas thesis is more loosely used and can refer to either a Masters degree or a Doctorate.
I suspect it probably doesn`t matter how you use the two terms under most circumstances in North America--most people probably don`t make any distinction.
