Dear native teachers,

Which is the correct preposition in British English?

I have a demanding job in school or at school.

Thank you so much in advance.

Crisi

Use at school when you think of school as a place where activities take place. Use in school to mean "inside the school building".

Also use "in school" to mean what someone is doing but "at school" to say where the person is.

"Is Bob working now?" "No, he's still in school."

"So where is your daughter?" "Oh, she's away at school -- Berkeley."

Thank you all for the explanations.

But if you are a teacher and work in school administration as well, is it then possible to say: IN SCHOOL?

I'm looking forward to getting you reply.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Crisi,

In your case you can say:

I have a demanding job at the school.

My job at school is demanding.

My job as a school teacher and administrator is demanding.
