Today I'd like to ask you about the word 'visit.'

Look at the following dialogue.

A: Where did you visit last year?
B: I visited New York.

Is the sentence A grammatically corret?
In my opinion, 'visit' is a transitive verb, so it cannot be used with 'where.'

Am I right?

What do you think and how do you paraphrase the sentence A?
