I am writing a story of an experience of mine visiting a place. The place is real, still existing and nothing has changed since my last visit. What tense should I use in the passage, simple present or simple past ?

It is probably easiest to use the past simple.

However, if you structured it properly, you could find ways of mostly using the present simple.
