Hmmmm...

I'd say she was a brilliant lady and a good comedian before I'd say "lesbian."

Her sexual orientation has little to do with her talent I would guess - not all lesbians are funny.

I think she's very talented.

I totally agree with you at this point, turtle.

Yes, she is good at spontaneous humor, she always makes me laugh when I watch her talk show. and she happens to be a lesbian. so her sex orientation has nothing to do with her talent.

She once said that she wouldn't become an activist of lesbian, she just wanted to be herself. what a wise woman.

I wonder if the comediennes/comediens prefer that version, or if they think it marginalizes them. (Which means take them out of the main stream of most comediens and puts them in a special category. I think most women would just prefer "comedien" now.)

Preference and being correct are two different things in the case of English. Very Happy

I'm old fashioned in that sense. Confused

On the other hand, that's how languages change. For example, "Ms." is accepted nowadays, but it was a new thing 30 or 40 years ago. (I don't remember exactly when it was "invented" Very Happy)

You're exactly right. It sometimes comes down to personal preference.

But when it comes down to laziness - like me using "comedian" instead of "comedienne" or some Texas nitwit using "nucular" instead of "nuclear" - I don't think it's completely excusable. If I had time to when I wrote the comment I would have looked it up. If I was a world leader I would learn how to correctly pronounce such an important word.

But I don't think language should change because people are lazy, ignorant, or arrogant (or a combination of these).
