Dear language experts,

I hope you can help me with the following 4 questions.

1. Mary is suffering from tuberculosis with rather little hope to recover.
is that possible, or would it have to be: of recovery

2. An operation done by Doctor Ivory.

or would it have to be: performed or carried out

3. He saves Mary's life, but gets Andrew into another trouble.

is that grammatically correct or is trouble uncountable in this case?

4. Most of the doctors, mainly at Victoria Hospital, are unfit to cure illness.
or is it: illnesses or an illness

Ever so gratefully yours,
Crisi

1. More common, and the way I would say it, would be "of recovery," although I don't suppose "to recover" is ungrammatical.

2. It's all right to say "done by Doctor Ivory" in conversation, but in writing, I'd prefer "performed" or "carried out."

3. You will never hear or read "another trouble." You could say, "but gets Andrew into trouble again."

4. I would stick with "illness," although "illnesses" would work, too.

For #3, "more trouble" is also acceptable.
