Hello dear teachers,

I need to understand one case with commas.

1. A student, who is mature enough, usually chooses to rent an apartment.
2. A student who is mature enough usually chooses to rent an apartment.

I mean, that majority of mature students rent an apartment instead of leaving in a dormitory.

So, which sentence is correct. Please, explain why.
Thank you in advance.

Quote:
1. A student, who is mature enough, usually chooses to rent an apartment.

With the enclosing commas, the relative clause who is mature enough becomes non-defining (non-restrictive). A non-defining (non-restrictive) modifier can be left out of a sentence without changing its meaning. The sentence can be read to mean "A student usually chooses to rent an apartment."

Quote:
2. A student who is mature enough usually chooses to rent an apartment.

Without the enclosing commas, the modifier who is mature enough defines the kind of student who usually chooses to rent an apartment.
