I British English more formal than American English? Do people who speak British English use the perfect tense more than people who speak American English. Is it okay and enough to speak in the simple tense when conversing?

Is British English old English and American English new English. In history, it looks like British English was first spoken when America was created but changed over time into its own. How different are both speaking languages?
