Hi,
The following is a precise copy from a British book:
"This form of gyroscope occurs in nature as laterae in flying insects."
What is laterae?
Thanks.

.
I don't have an entomological dictionary, but I suppose that laterae (sing. latera) are some sort of stabilizing device or organ of certain insects.
I cannot find the word in the online entonmological dictionaries, so it may be an archaic word.
