"There were no confectioners, as we know now them, until 19th century."

#1. Which better rewrites the above?

1) We know now that there were no confectioners until 19th century.

2) There were no confectioners, which are modern and found everywhere today, until 19th century.

#2. Is it possibel to use "as we know now" instead of "as we know now them" in the above sentence?" And I wonder in which case we use object in the kind of phrase "as we know..., as we recall...."

#3. "As I recall, my parents were really honets. "

In this sentence, "AS I recall it" is awkard?

The sentence would not be spoken or written with "know now," but only with "now know": "There were no confectioners, as we now know them, until the 19th century." (Note addition of "the" before "19th.")

1. "We know now that there were no confectioners until the 19th century." Fine (with addition of "the"). Also could have "now know" and be correct.

2. "There were no confectioners, which are modern and found everywhere today, until 19th century." No. Awkward.

3. Correcting spelling: "As I recall, my parents were really honest." Fine as is.
