Hi, everyone.
This is a quote from a movie titled "When Harry met Sally"
"Restaurants are to people in the eighties what theater was to people in the sixties."
Idon't know why the word "theater" is used in the singular form while restaurants in the plural.
Is there any particular reason for it?
Thank you!

When we speak of the business of plays, or acting in plays, or putting on plays, or even attending plays, we call it "the theater."
Jason Alexander started out in the theater -- musicals, mostly -- but became famous for the TV show "Seinfeld." Now he is back doing theater again. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
