If you clean off a table, you take all the dishes, etc. off and wipe it clean. If you clean up your room, you put everything away, dust the furniture, make the bed, sweep or vacuum the floor, etc.
Usually you would clean a smudge off a window, but clean up a messy essay or computer program.
I think the particle "up" with verbs usually denotes a thorough job of it -- whether you eat up the leftovers, clean up your room, or rake up the yard. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
