Dear teachers,

I came across the sentences below when I read a short story.

I hadn't seen him smile in all that time. He'd lectured lugubriously
at the university, glumly addressed a gathering at the British
Council library, done depressing signings at two bookshops and
sulked his way round a reception at the Irish embassy.

I'd like to ask you about the phrase sulked his way round a reception.
Did he attend the reception? What exactly does the phrase mean?

I'd appreciate it if someone would answer my question.

Well, to sulk is to act sullen and self-pitying. This writer is using the verb in a creative way to indicate that the glum, unsmiling person went to an embassy reception and was sulking the whole time.

Hi, CP,

Thank you for your illuminating answer.
Now I get it.
