Hi, I'm from Nicaragua and now and learning english in California. I think is a good idea learn or listen to music in english, also watch tv in englihs chanels. Make friends can help you a lot. And all the time we can say the words in our mind and try to think in english.
Good luck

I agree that listening to music and the radio and watching television and movies can be very good for some, but only if your language skills are good enough to understand most of the words or lyrics.
When I started learning Spanish and Japanese, in immersion situations similar to yours, I could not understand anything other than a few words here and there. Once I developed to the point where could understand most of what was said, my language skills really began to develop at an accelerated pace as I understood enough to infer the meanings of those words I had not encountered.
From my experience, music, television etc... may not be of nearly as much benefit for a beginner as for intermediate and advanced students.
Good luck with your studies.
