|
|
First,I am sorry that becouse my English vocabulary and phrases are restrited,I can't express myself clearly!
Now I am learning the grammer of "Direct Speech and Indirect Speech"
As we know, the under sentence is Direct Speech:
"When did you go to bed?"Father asked Anne
Then,if I want to changed Direct Speech sentence into Indirect Speech, the sentence is:
Father asked Anne when she went to bed the night before
Here the adverbial has been changed from "last night" into "the night before."
However,if "the night before" is in the Direct Speech sentence.
For example:
"When did you go to bed the night before?"Father asked Anne
Then, how to change this sentence into Indirect Speech?
My question is what can be instead of "the night before" here ?
I am not sure if I have made my question clearly,so I said a lot above.
Sorry again! _________________ Winky has made many mistakes in her compositions.Sorry about that. But she has confidence in doing it better! |

Winky,
I agree with Brian Boyd's answer, but I don't think you would hear anyone use "the night before" rather than "last night" as in your question. Father would say to Anne: "When did you go to bed last night?"
He might also ask, "Anne, when did you go to bed the night before last?" But that, of course, means one day earlier. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
