Hello, I read:
Even on a small scale, McKinsey doesnt pinch pennies. When
Kristin Asleson took a highly courted JD-MBA out to lunch in
New York, she took her to Le Cirque. Ivana Trump held court
at a rear corner table. Walter Cronkite walked in. They nodded
to each other.
What Ivana held court mean? What did she do? I couldn't find it in dictionaries.

The king or queen holds court, speaking to all the courtiers, who must listen respectfully no matter how dull the speech. By analogy, when someone important or at least famous holds court, he or she has everyone's rapt attention, even if he or she is a crashing bore.
Here, Ivana Trump is sitting at a table in the restaurant, with all the people listening to her as if she were a guru. Maybe it was fascinating! _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
