When would you definitely use word haste, but not hurry and vice versa?
Give an example.

Alex.

"Haste" has an old-fashioned feel to it, and it isn't much used these days except in some stock phrases:

"Haste makes waste." A nice little aphorism by the great Benjamin Franklin.

"Marry in haste, repent at leisure." Wise words to those who are thinking of marrying in a hurry.

"Don't be hasty." A warning to people to think things through first.

In none of these can "hurry" be substituted without adding something:

"Being in a hurry can be wasteful."

"Marry in a hurry, be sorry at your leisure."

"Don't be in a big hurry." "Don't hurry too much."

Hope this helps. Probably others will have something to add to this.
