" Our nursing professor gave us a quiz. I had easily answered all the questions until I read the last one: "What is the name of the woman who cleans the school?" I knew she was tall, short-haired, and in her fifties, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the question blank. Collecting the papers, the professor said the last question would count. Then she added, "In your carrers youwill meet many people. Allare significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say hello," I've never forgotten that lesson.
1. What's the meaning of "count" in " the last question would count"?
1) be significant
2) take into account; include
2. What's the meaning of " even if all you do is smile and say hello."?
1) You usually just smile and say hello to people as a nurse (and you usually dont' pay attention to them and rembmer their names).
2) Your smile and saying hello is enough to show your attention and care to people
3) You usually just smile and say hello to people, but you need to care and pay attention to people and therefore, remember their names. |

1. It means that the last question would be scored and the score would be counted along with the scores of all the other questions for your total grade on the exam.
2. It means that, even if you do nothing more than smile and say hello to the cleaning lady, the doorman, and others, you should at least give that much acknowledgment to them. They are significant even if they are not high ranking in the organization, and they deserve some attention, too. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
