6.They didn't let me go until they drove around for about two hours.
7.They didn't let me go until they have driven around for about two hours.

What's the different between #1 and #2?
What's the different between #3 and #4?
What's the different among #5,#6, and #7?

Thanks.

I'm laughing right now because I knew someone would ask this after the last post about those questions... Laughing

OK, let's go to work!

Quote:
1.They didn't let me go when they had driven around for about two hours.
The grammar sounds a bit unnatrual, but possible. The 2 hour drive was finished and you were still locked in the car.

Quote:
2.They didn't let me go when they drove around for about two hours.
This sentence sounds unnatural, you need to substitute while for when. They dove for 2 hours with you locked in the car.

Quote:
3.They didn't let me go after they had driven around for about two hours.
The grammar is fine. The 2 hour drive is completed and you are still locked in the car.

I'm beginning to wonder, were you locked in the trunk? Shocked

Quote:
4.They didn't let me go after they drove around for about two hours.
The grammer is ok but not great. It would be improved by using even though instead of after. You are still in the car after 2 hours of driving. Perhaps they continued driving and you continued to be stuck in the car.

Quote:
5.They didn't let me go until they had driven around for about two hours.
They drove around for 2 hours and then finally they let you out.

Very Happy Finally! Oh, I am so relieved. I was beginning to worry about you.

Quote:
6.They didn't let me go until they drove around for about two hours.
So everyone discussed it before the drive, and decided to lock you in the car for a two hour drive. Then, after the drive, they let you go.

Are you sure you should be riding in a car with these people? Rolling Eyes

Quote:
7.They didn't let me go until they have driven around for about two hours.
The grammar is bad. Go review you grammar book in the section on verb tenses and expressions of time.
