Q:Which sentence is right?
1.I was earlier at school than Jan was.
2.I was at school earlier than Jan was.
3.I was earlier than Jan was at school.

When you use the comparitive structure, --er than, you don't need to repeat the verb. So your sentence should be:
I was at school earlier than Jan. _________________ Warning: I have a dictionary and I'm not afraid to use it! |

| ESL-ish is right, but Number 2 is okay too. |
