I think this sentence should be " People spend money (on) buying unnecessary thungs every day." |

The sentence doesn't make sense because "to buy" refers to why they spend their money.
Here's a different example:
Why do I save my money?
I save my money to buy things. (in order to)
How do I save money?
I save my money buying wisely. _________________ I'm never going to learn if you don't correct my mistakes! |
