If so, what is the different between #1 and #2?

#1 and #2 mean the same thing. #1 is sounds better to me. There is no rule involved - it is just a convention. Verbals, like to support, can follow adjectives, like happy. But to support doesn't sound good after zealous, which is also an adjective.
#3 is definitely better than #4. There is purpose in their zealousnous; therefore, you should use for, which is the preposition of purposeness. |
