I wonder which is correct?
A. A sign "Be quiet." is on the wall.
B. A sign, "Be quiet." is on the wall.
C. A sign, "Be quiet.", is on the wall.
It seems silly but I'd like to know which one is correct English.
I thank you in advance.
Regards,
Allen |

I choose C (but normally there wouldn't be a period after "quiet").
Remember that a comma indicates a pause in speech and often isolates an explanatory or descriptive phrase. Another example is John, a good friend of mine, has been very sick recently. |

I don't like any of them.
How about: A "be quiet" sign is on the wall.
It's like: Have you seen the "no smoking" sign? _________________ I'm never going to learn if you don't correct my mistakes! |

I agree that your sentence is a very good one. I was focussing on the use of commas and chose from the 3 punctuation choices. |
