Dear all,
Is the following sentence correct?
I can't tell him how long he's left Taiwan.
Should we say "for how long" instead? Thanks in advance. |

That is a very strange sentence.
Is him and he the same person?
Do you mean 'for how long' or 'how long ago'? |

It comes from a test.
I think him and he mean different people. And I assume it's "for how long." |

We'll assume there are two people.
"he's" can be short for he has and he is, but he is doesn't fit here.
"I can't tell him for how long he's left Taiwan." is grammatically correct.
"how long ago" does not fit with "he's". |
