I was reading stories about Christopher Walken online. The following story is supposed to be funny or goofy. But I can't tell whether it's funny or goofy. Could anyone explain?

This story involves Walken and Grace Jones during the making of A View To A Kill. On a break, they swing open the door to a pub in some grimy East European village. Three toothless peasants turn around. There's Jones and there's Walken, in black leather and a spiked, powdered wig. Walken looks at the peasants, drops his jaw, and roars, "Coleslaw for everyone!" -- Details Magazine, December 1993.

Coleslaw is a dish made from chopped up cabbage.
I believe it originated in Eastern Europe.
Also the peasants in your story have no teeth; coleslaw does not need much chewing before swallowing.

I think you still have to chew it! I don't think I could eat coleslaw if I had no teeth. Wink

First, coleslaw is a cabbage salad that probably does take teeth to chew.

Second, Christopher Walken is one of the funnieste, craziest, most identifiable actors on the planet.

Third, Grace Jones is (or was at the time) a striking, tall, imposing woman.

If Grace Jones and Christopher Walken dressed in leather with spiked hair walked into a local pub, they would probably freak the patrons out immediately. When Walken opened his mouth to speak, I'm sure the patrons expected something frightening to issue forth. The best they could hope for would be, "Drinks on the house."

What does he say? "Coleslaw for everyone."

It makes no sense, but it is brilliant. I wish I had been there.

I'll bet anything Walken actually tried to get the proprietor to give coleslaw to all the patrons.

Thanks, CP, for the detailed explanation. Now I can understand how funny the story is. Very Happy I couldn't imagine that he is funny because he looks spooky to me just like he is in "Sleeping Hollow." Has he played in any comedies? I'd like to see his funny side.

BTW, you sound like a fan of Christopher Walken.

What do you mean that Grace Jones is a striking, imposing woman? Was she strikingly pretty?

You can see pictures of the 5'10-1/2" (179 cm) tall Grace Jones at lots of Web sites, e.g.,

or just enter her name under Google images.
