Learning Chinese has become a trend nowadays.

Your sentences are correct to my eyes.

The second one can also be put as:
It has become a trend to learn Chinese nowadays.

The second part of the sentence is not true so I'd change the sentence to:
Among the oldest civilizations in the world, the Chinese civilization is one of the few that still live.

Does it mean different to say "lives" or just grammatically improper?
