Your sentences are correct to my eyes.
The second one can also be put as:
It has become a trend to learn Chinese nowadays. |

I would make a couple of changes.
The Chinese civilization is one of the oldest and the only one that still lives on - or - is still living.

The second part of the sentence is not true so I'd change the sentence to:
Among the oldest civilizations in the world, the Chinese civilization is one of the few that still live.
