1.My family likes to read comic books.
2.My family like to read comic books.

I don't know how I use the verb.

I checked my dictionary. It says nowadays American people use likes(or any verbs when talk about the the word family) whether it talks about family members or the whole family.

Please tell me what porper ways to use the word family.

When referring to a group of individuals you will see both the singular and the plural form of the verb used. I've noticed that it is more common in British English to refer to the group in the plural form while in American English it is the singular form. You can see this for yourself here:
