Hi, everyone!
I'd like to ask you what sort of things are covered by the word "hobby"?
I understand such activities as playing chess, collecting particular items, and gardening are all called "hobbies."
However, do you think reading books, net surfing", jogging, and watching TV are also hobbies?
Thank you!

| Almost anything you do for pleasure on a regular basis can be a hobby. It is defined as, a favourite leisure-time activity. So it could include activities that are considered work, by other people - for instance, flying aeroplanes, geology (rock-hunting), horse riding, and so on. |

Hi, esterix
Thank you, asterix. I learned in a book that hobby has narrower meaning than pastime, and that's why I posted the question. However, it seems that hobby has broad meaning enough to cover almost all the activities you do in your free time. Thanks again for your reply.

| You're welcome. A hobby is something you do to pass the time, so a hobby can be a pastime. |
