I went see the movie Eragon today. In the movie actor Jeremy Irons played the major character Brom.
Soon after the movie I read on a discussion messageboard someone started a thread called SAT Analogy time... Jeremy Irons:Fantasy Flick is to, and the first reply he got was:
Jeremy Irons is to Fantasy Flicks as A-rod is to coming up with a clutch hit in Pin Strips. both have great skills in their profession but both have failed in there recent endevours.
I know Jeremy played another fantasy movie Dungeons & Dragons six years ago which turned out to be a flop. And I think both posters mentioned above were disappointed in Eragon, they meant to say whenever Irons was cast in a fantasy movie, that movie was bad. But I have not the foggiest idea what A-rod-clutch-Pin Strips is. Can anyone please explain it?
Thanks. |

First, it's not Pin Strips but pin stripes, meaning the uniform worn by the New York Yankees baseball team. The uniform for that team traditionally is made of white or light gray fabric (home games or away games, respectively) with thin stripes.
A-Rod is Alex Rodriguez, an excellent hitter for the Yankees. A clutch hit is a hit (fair ball that gets the batter at least to first base safely) "in the clutch," i.e., when it is most needed.
The writer is saying that A-Rod is a good hitter who lately has failed to deliver the hits when needed. Similarly, Jeremy Irons is a good actor who has failed to deliver the good performances when needed. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
