I was also touched by his words. After that, when I began to feel irritated at someone, I would remember his words and become calm . If he could replace his great pain with a feeling of love for others, then I should be able to give up my small irritations. In this way , I learned the power of acceptance from my father.
Sometimes I wondered what other things I could have learned from him if I had listened more carefully when I was a boy. For now, though, I am grateful for this one _______.
A. gift B. award C. lesson D. word
As far as I know, the "gift "is often associated with physical substance. In this case, since I learn something mental from his words, I choose answer C-----"lesson".
But the answer given is A. Could any native explain for me?
Thanks |

hi my friend, I am not native.
but as far as I can understand, there is a literal style here, and it is irony.
irony: the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning
I think so... _________________ Universal Peace... |

1...This is not irony.
2..."A gift doesn't always have to be something physical. "Gift" and "lesson" are both acceptable answers but I also would choose "lesson". The person talks about what he learned from his father.
3...jasonlulu, are you in China? |

Anyhow, I got confused about the above answer A.
