Dear Mr. Lee, In the bold area, there is an error: 'phrase' should be plural like 'gems' and 'examples'. Beyond that, you may be confused with the word 'gem'. The primary meaning is a gemstone, like ruby, sapphire, emerald, diamond. They are considered precious, or highly-valued. But the meaning of 'gem' has been expanded to mean anything that is highly-valued. So, the author is saying that, in preparing to give a speech, you should specifically remember words or topics that you are sure will have a positive impact on your speech. These words or topics are then gems, precious. And don't memorize all the other words of your speech. OK? |
